Tala reveals that she was there the day the ocean chose Moana and gave her the heart of Te Fiti, and still has it in her possession. Not knowing how to sail, Moana rushes to her people and asks for their assistance in restoring the heart. The goddess revives the dying islands around the world, as well as Moana’s boat and Maui’s hook. Moana asks Maui to go home, but Maui warmly denies it, instead showing Moana a new tattoo on his body, inspired by her heroism. As her noble action has restored the safety of the sea, Moana becomes chief, and the villagers take the boats out of their ancestors hidden harbor. Traveling begins again and Moana Moana makes her mark of leadership on the sacred mountain of Motunui with a shell given to her by the ocean, symbolizing the unity of her duties to her people and her passion for the seas.
As Moana bursts into tears, she is visited by Grandma Tala’s spiritual ghost, who comforts and apologizes to her granddaughter for putting such much pressure on her. Tala encourages Moana to return home if she wishes, promising to stay by her side on the journey. Unable to understand, Tala encourages her granddaughter to open up to her emotions to understand why she is hesitant to go home. Moana realizes that the eternal love she has for her people and the sea is what has brought her so far, this is what ultimately defines who she is, and explains why she is the only one capable of save the world. When she resurfaces, Tala is gone, but Moana’s determination grows more prominent.

Maui jumps in and with the help of Moana’s ancestors, including Grandma Tala and Tautai Vasa, they revive her, with Moana becoming a demigoddess (complete with demigod tattoos), and Maui raises Motufetu, reconnecting the ocean with the mortals. When Moana blows her conch shell from atop Motufetu, her call is answered as several rafts from other islands appear and allow her to meet with the other people connected by the restored Motufetu. They set off again, but an despondent Maui feels unable to defeat Te Kā and restore the heart without his hook. Moana, wanting to give Maui the benefit of the doubt, seeks to discover the underlying plot of the demigod.

She is a young explorer from the South Pacific who was destined to do extraordinary things she could have never done before while travelling across the seas. During her journeys, she would come across a demigod named Maui, who later becomes her voyaging partner. She is also Chief Tui and Sina’s elder daughter, Grandma Tala’s elder granddaughter, Simea’s elder sister, and Pua and Heihei’s owner. It continues the story of Moana and Maui, who embark on a new quest to explore the uncharted regions of Oceania and encounter new cultures and creatures. The film was directed by Dave Derrick Jr., with music by Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina.
Even though Sina does not allow Moana to go anywhere near the sea like Tui does, Moana shares a loving relationship with her mother. Sina also warns Moana that sometimes who they wish they could be is just not meant to be, referencing Moana’s love for the ocean while comforting her daughter. The short film, Gone Fishing, was released in 2017 as a bonus feature on the Blu-ray release of Moana. It shows Maui trying to catch a fish with his magical fishhook, while Moana tries to stop him from harming a baby turtle.

After restoring the Heart of Te Fiti and saving Polynesia, including Motunui, from Te Ka’s curse, Moana happily reunited with Pua upon returning to Motunui. Once the ban on sea travel had been lifted, Moana was accompanied by Pua as she started and led a new generation of wayfinders. After arriving at Maui’s Island by surviving a storm, Moana met the demigod and tried to speak with him, only to find he was egotistic, arrogant, and boisterous. Maui’s narcissism and arrogance immediately disgusted Moana and though she was amazed to learn of the benefits Maui offered to mankind, she was angered when the demigod tricked and trapped her in a cave in order to steal her boat. Upon escaping the cave and being helped by Ocean to desperately get back to her boat, Moana angrily confronted Maui, who continuously threw her off the boat, only for Ocean to repeatedly put her back on it.

Moana is thrown off her boat and is nearly killed by the lava demon until Maui suddently returns. Having had a change of heart, he is determined to defend Moana, despite the damaged state of his fishhook. Maui distracts Te Kā while the ocean helps Moana to Te Fiti’s now molten shores.
After her chieftain father Tui orders her to return to the village, she never sees it until she has grown up. Moana, now a teenager, has the responsibility of becoming the next chief of the island as her father insists, but due to her close friendship with her grandmother, Gramma Tala, she keeps her dream of leaving the island alive. She soon discovers that all the fish have disappeared from the shores of the village, and the coconuts have spoiled. Moana insists on going beyond the reef to catch more, but her father dismisses her request, angered by her wishes.

After directing The Princess and the Frog, Musker and Clements started working on an adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s Mort, but rights problems prevented them from continuing with that project. To avoid similar problems, they pitched three new ideas, and in 2011 started developing the film based on an original idea. Aaron and Jordan Kandell joined the project during a critical period to help deepen the emotional story architecture of the film. Memorable characters, an empowering message and a catchy soundtrack combine to make this incredible movie.
